DARTS – Bahrain signed off from the World Cup of Darts 2024 yesterday in Frankfurt, Germany, with a 0-4 loss to Iceland.
Bahrainis Basem Mahmood and Duda Durra bowed to the Iceland pair of Petur Gudmundsson and Arngrimur Olafsson in four straight legs.
The result sealed back-toback losses for the kingdom’s representatives in Group H of the competition’s preliminary round. They had previously put in an exciting fight against Adam Gawlas and Karel Sedlacek of the Czech Republic in their opening assignment, where they nearly stunned their rivals in a tight, 3-4 setback.
Mahmood was playing for the second time in the World Cup while Durra was making his debut.
Their participation in the competition was backed by sponsors Cuesoul, Buffalo Wings and Rings, and the Arabian Bullseye Darts.
There were 12 groups in all in the opening stage of the competition, which is being organised and run by the Professional Darts Corporation.
Only the top team from each group moved on last night to the second phase, where they join seeded nations England, Wales, the Netherlands and Scotland to begin the knockouts.
