HANDBALL – BAHRAIN champions Al Shabab will take on Al Rayyan of Qatar in their opening match of the 27th Asian Men’s Club League Handball Championship, which is set to be held in Doha in November.
The tournament schedule was confirmed yesterday by the Bahrain Handball Federation.
Shabab are one of 10 teams from across the region set to compete in this year’s event, which is scheduled for November 12 to 23. The kigndom’s representatives and Rayyan are in a challenging Group A for the preliminary round alongside Al Karkh SC of Iraq, Al Kuwait SC of Kuwait, and Sharjah SC of the UAE.
Group B is composed of Ahli Sidab Club of Oman, Al Duhail SC of Qatar, Kazma SC of Kuwait, Sanat Mes Kerman of Iran, and defending champions Khaleej Club of Saudi Arabia. Following their game on opening day, Shabab are next scheduled to face Karkh on November 14. They then take on Sharjah on November 16, and then play Kuwait the following day as they wrap up their group campaign.
The top four teams from each pool move on to the quarter-finals on November 19, and then the semi-finals will be held on November 21. The gold and bronze medal contests, along with the other classification matches, are then set for November 23.
All fixtures are set to be held at Doha’s Al Duhail Handball Sports Hall.
The competition also serves as a qualifying event for the 18th IHF Men’s Handball Club World Championship, to be held in New Administrative Capital, Egypt, in October of 2025. Only the winners will secure a qualification spot in the club worlds.
Shabab are competing in the Asian clubs event after being crowned champions of the 2023-24 Khalid bin Hamad Bahrain Handball League.
