BASKETBALL - AL Hala defeated Samaheej 85-72 last night to draw first blood in the promotion/relegation play-off series for a Premier League spot in the 2024-25 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Hala used a strong second-quarter performance to take control of the contest. They led by as many as 18 points late in the game en route to securing their final winning margin.
Alex Young top scored for Hala with 29 points while Abdulqader Thani added 15. Hussain Jan and Ahmed bin Daineh finished with 12 markers apiece.
For Samaheej, Kibi Mania scored 21 points to pace his team in the losing effort. Basel Adel added 17 and Mohammed Abdulla Jaffar scored 11.
Hala will now be looking to secure their place in next season’s Premier League when they face off with Samaheej again on Monday, scheduled for a 7pm tip-off. Samaheej, who are looking to take Hala’s spot and gain promotion from League B, will hope to extend the series to a winner-take-all third game, which would be played on Thursday, also at 7pm.
