A proposed amendment to the 2006 Labour Market Regulatory Law that would mandate the inclusion of a maximum cap on work permits in the national labour market plan, is set for debate and a vote during Tuesday’s weekly Parliament session.
Parliament’s services committee chairwoman Jalila Al Sayed said the amendment aims to reduce over-reliance on foreign labour by controlling the issuance of work permits by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) .
