CRICKET – BAHRAIN registered a dominant nine-wicket win over Saudi Arabia, chasing down the target of 137 in just 18.2 overs, thanks to a thunderous unbeaten century from their skipper.
Opting to field first, Bahrain’s bowlers made regular inroads to restrict Saudi Arabia to 136 all out in 42.2 overs.
Mohammed Shaheen was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/29, well-supported by Jason Terry Philip’s 3/18. A Rafay (36 off 75) and Ahyan Mohammad Saleh (32) tried to hold the innings together, but a flurry of wickets in the middle overs halted Saudi’s momentum.
In reply, Bahrain came out all guns blazing. Captain Sunish Sunil Bayalan stole the show with a blistering 102 off just 64 balls, striking 15 boundaries in a stunning display of timing and power. His dominant knock and Mohammed Shaheen’s unbeaten 25 ensured Bahrain raced to the target with 31.4 overs to spare.
