Singer and actor Jennifer Lopez has been sued for copyright infringement by a photographer and photo agency after she shared pictures of herself from a pre-Golden Globes party on social media.
Backgrid USA, the photo agency, and photographer Edwin Blanco both accused Lopez of posting her arrival and departure from the event in January without their consent and without any visible watermarks. The post caption read: "Weekend Glamour" and featured her holding a Chanel purse while wearing a white fur coat and a slip dress.
According to the lawsuit, the 55-year-old singer exploited the event's publicity by using the photos to advertise her brand partnerships and fashion affiliations.
According to attorney Peter Perkowski, who represents Blanco and Backgrid, both parties verbally agreed on a monetary settlement. However, Lopez did not sign the paperwork and has not paid the agreed-upon amount.
In the lawsuit, Blanco and Backgrid request statutory damages of up to $150,000 for each photo used and a jury trial.
