BASKETBALL – BAHRAINI basketball star Mohammed Kowayed has arrived in Antwerp, Belgium, and begun training with the Riffa basketball team as he gears up to become the first-ever player from the kingdom to compete in the Fiba 3x3 World Tour.
Kowayed will be making his debut in the prestigious street basketball series in its Vienna stop this June 13 to 15 in Austria.
Kowayed was welcomed upon joining the team by Riffa players Dennis Donkor, Jonas Foerts, Vic Van Oosterwyck, and Thibaut Vervoort, along with team officials. He will be taking to the court in the Vienna competition with Donkor, Foerts and Van Oosterwyck.
Vienna will be the fifth meeting on the 2025 calendar of this year’s Fiba 3x3 World Tour, which is being held under the banner of the International Basketball Federation (Fiba).
The series has already made stops in Japan, China, the Netherlands, and France before the upcoming Austria event.
The 15-tournament campaign will culminate in Bahrain for the Fiba 3x3 World Tour finale on November 21 and 22. It will be the first time ever that the kingdom will be staging the Fiba 3x3 World Tour curtain-closer, in which this year’s champions will be crowned.
There are also 20 Challenger events held throughout this season.
