The Sultanate of Oman witnessed intensive diplomatic activity yesterday, Sunday, as part of peaceful efforts to de-escalate regional tensions resulting from Israel’s illegal aggression against Iranian territory. His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik received two phone calls from Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of the Republic of Türkiye.
The diplomatic efforts included an exceptional meeting between Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, and his German counterpart, who visited Muscat. The discussions addressed the volatile regional situation due to ongoing Israeli attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran, which targeted vital sovereign facilities, resulting in numerous casualties. The talks also covered the ongoing brutal destruction, violence, displacement, and genocide in the Gaza Strip.
The two sides exchanged perspectives, as Sayyid Badr highlighted Israel’s violations of international laws and conventions, including breaches of state sovereignty. He emphasized the two-state solution and the need to expand international recognition of the Palestinian state. Both sides stressed the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to support peaceful solutions and restore stability.
Within the same context, the Foreign Minister continues his series of intensive phone calls with counterparts from Arab, Islamic and friendly nations, aiming to mobilize political and legal pressure to halt Israeli aggression.
The discussions underscored the necessity of rallying international efforts to counter Israel’s violations of international law, which risk exacerbating the regional crisis. They reaffirmed that diplomatic solutions remain the only path to achieving security and peace.
These sustained efforts reflect Oman's unwavering commitment to its steadfast position in support of peace, manifested through purposeful and rational dialogue and the impartial application of justice in accordance with international law. This approach aims to preserve global stability, safeguard regional security, and ensure opportunities of prosperity and growth for all.
