PARA ATHLETICS – BAHRAIN’S Rooba Alomari secured a bronze medal in the women’s javelin F55 category at the Tunisia stop of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025.
The meeting, held at Rades Stadium in Tunis and sanctioned by World Para Athletics, features the world’s best Para athletes. It is part of the grand prix series that holds events worldwide ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games in the US.
Tunisia marks the eighth stop on the 2025 calendar, with other competitions already held in Dubai in the UAE, New Delhi in India, Marrakech in Morocco, Jalisco in Mexico, Cali in Colombia, Nottwil in Switzerland, and Paris in France, with another in Olomouc in Czechia.
Alomari secured her bronze medal after registering a best throw of 17.46 metres.
She joined Maria Guadalupe Navarro Hernandez from Mexico and Ogochukwa Ogili from Nigeria on the podium. Hernandez had a top mark of 19.73m to capture the gold medal, while Ogili took silver with a best throw of 17.70m.
Alomari’s furthest throw came on her fifth of six attempts. Her other throws were 15.60m, 16.50m, 16.45m, 17.31m, and 16.59m.
Alomari is one of more than 500 athletes from 61 countries taking part in the meeting.
Her bronze medal reflects her high level of preparedness and determination, in addition to the technical and administrative support Bahrain’s Para athletics national team receives in their international competitions.
Alomari is also set to compete in the F55 category of the women’s shot put and discus throw.
She is part of a team that also includes six other Para athletes. The Bahraini squad is composed Saad Saad in the men’s F32 class (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m), Yusuf Aljlas in the men’s F57 (shot put and discus throw), Nassar Alwaqza in the men’s T54 (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m), Mohamed Alshook in the men’s T51 (100m, 200m), Ahmed Nooh in the men’s T53 (100m and 200m), and Maryam Alhamidi in the women’s F46 (javelin throw, shot put, discus throw).
The kingdom’s delegation in the event is headed by Shaikh Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and it includes administrator Noura Al Enezi, and coaches Ali Al Ghazal, Imad Murad, and Ahmed Mushaima.
