VOLLEYBALL – Bahrain's under-18 men’s volleyball national team will be taking on hosts Jordan tonight in the quarter-finals of the 17th Arab Junior Volleyball Championship, currently being played in Amman.
The Bahrainis, coached by Santiago Faidutti from Argentina, clash with their Jordanian counterparts at Sports Palace Hall in Al Hussein Youth City. The game is scheduled for a 7pm start, Bahrain time.
It will be one of four fixtures in the opening elimination stage of the eight-team competition. The others will see Palestine take on Egypt at 1pm, Libya face Iraq at 3pm, and Kuwait play Lebanon at 5pm. All times are Bahrain.
The kingdom’s representatives are so far undefeated in the tournament, having swept their preliminary round schedule with three wins in Group B.
They first beat Kuwait in four sets, then took care of both Iraq and Palestine in three-setters.
Those results earned them first place in their pool heading into the knockouts.
Hosts Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, and Egypt were all in Group A in the round-robin stage.
The championship has been organised and is being run by the Arab Volleyball Association, chaired by Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, in cooperation with the Jordan Volleyball Federation.
The kingdom’s delegation in Amman is headed by BVA vice-president Mohammed Al Thawadi.
