Alternative metal band Deftones are dropping their 10th album Private Music tomorrow, August 22.
This is the band’s first studio album since 2020’s Ohms, marking the longest release gap in their career.
The ensemble features lead singer Chino Moreno, guitarist Stephen Carpenter, drummer Abe Cunningham and Frank Delgado on keyboards.
In an interview, Chino said that having a relaxed schedule for the project made it more enjoyable to create, in opposition to previous experiences where he felt more obliged than inspired to make music.
“It’s obviously work to create and there’s a lot of stuff that goes along with it, but it definitely should be enjoyable,” he said.
“For me personally, I’ve made a couple of records where it wasn’t as enjoyable as this record. May be, I wasn’t in a creative space at the time or whatever, it just felt like something I had to do, and it felt more like a job. Whereas this record, to me, was just like having those breaks in between and when we got together, it was the fun part,” he added.
The artist also revealed that the 11-track album earned its title from a desktop folder where the album was being put together, adding that he liked how it can be interpreted in different ways by the listener.
The release follows singles, My Mind Is a Mountain and Milk of the Madonna in July and this month respectively.
