Since its inception in 2014, Bhavans Bahrain Indian School (BIS) has transformed from a modest institution of 33 students into a premier centre of learning.
This decade-long journey, rooted in the legacy of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, stands as an inspiring testament to the visionary leadership of directors Himanshu Verma and Ritu Verma.
The school’s most significant milestone is its recognition by the Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA), which awarded BIS the prestigious Golden Seal of Recognition. Formally classified as ‘Outstanding’, BIS holds the distinction of being the fastest CBSE school in Bahrain to attain this top-tier rating.
Academic excellence remains the cornerstone of the BIS reputation. The school has consistently maintained a 100 per cent pass rate and 100pc first-division results for its Grade X and XII batches, securing the highest average scores among CBSE schools in Bahrain.
On the international stage, BIS stands alone as the only school in the kingdom to enter the Advanced Band in PIRLS 2021 with a score of 630, while also outperforming global averages in TIMSS 2023. These achievements have been formally recognised by the Education Ministry and Education Minister Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma.
Beyond the classroom, BIS has cultivated a culture of innovation and global engagement – as the sole representative for Bahrain at the National Children’s Science Congress 2025 in India, and with a dominant presence in the Shastra Pratibha Contest. Students regularly excel in the World Scholar’s Cup, qualifying for the Tournament of Champions at Yale University, and participating in the annual Bhavans Model United Nations (BMUN), a flagship conference for regional diplomacy.
The school’s holistic approach is further evidenced by its athletic and literary successes. From Sunish Sunil Bayalan’s selection for the Bahrain U-19 National Cricket Team to alumna Amruta Phadke’s participation in the 2023 Asian Games, BIS students shine on the international field.
Meanwhile, the ‘BIS Wordsmith’ initiative has nurtured numerous young authors who have published independent literary works.
Guided by a ‘No Child Left Behind’ policy and a commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, BIS ensures that every student is a responsible, globally aware citizen. Through robust career counselling and deep community service partnerships with organisations like the Royal Humanitarian Society, BIS continues to shape the leaders of tomorrow.
