HORSERACING – WANISA lifted the Jeel ICT Cup at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) last night for owner Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim and trainer Haider Ebrahim.
In attendance during yesterday’s event, which marked the 13th meeting of the national horseracing season, were Supreme Council for Environment vice-president, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports member, and REHC High Committee deputy chairman Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa, along with General Sports Authority deputy chairman and Bahrain Combat Sports Council president Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and other officials.
Wanisa triumphed in the sixth race of the day, held over 1,800m with BD4,000 in total prizes. The four-year-old filly was ridden by Benoit De La Sayette and took first place by a length-and-a-half from runner-up Illuminate, competing for Victorious Forever, Paul Smith, and Alejandro Brun.
Perast finished third for Abdulla Fawzi Nass, Fawzi Nass, and Alberto Sanna, while Mind Your Manners was third for M and E Racing, Paul Smith, and Lee Newman.
Also on yesterday’s nine-race card, the M and E-Smith-Newman triumvirate won the fifth event with Phoenix to come away with the stc Jusoor Cup.
The four-year-old colt dominated the 1,800m race, with BD4,000 offered in winnings, finishing with a four-and-three-quarters’ length gap ahead of Baraak, who took second for Al Mohamediya Racing, Ali Abdulmajeed, and Soufiane Saadi.
Dick Dastardly came third for M and E, Smith, and Franky Vanhonsebrouck, while Tomahawk was fourth for Abdulla Fawzi Nass, Fawzi Nass, and Sanna.
Meanwhile, Blue Day won the stc Bahrain Sprint Cup, held in race seven over a 1,200m straight with BD3,000 in prize money.
Blue Day competed for owners Victorious Forever and trainer George Scott. The five-year-old gelding was ridden by Rosie Jessop as they narrowly beat Spangled Mac by a half length. Spangled Mac was racing for Exors of the Late Adrian McAlpine, George Boughey, and La Sayette. Mearall came third for Mohamediya, Nass, and Saadi, while Grand City Hall took fourth place for Mohamediya, Reyadh Ahmed, and Hasan Al Saffar.
Sky Advocate won the InspireU Cup yesterday, which was up for the taking in race four, held over 1,800m with BD3,000 in prizes. Saadi steered the four-year-old gelding to the win for owners Mohamediya and trainer Abdulmajeed.
Hardtail finished second for Fateel Brothers Syndicate, Adel Abdulla, and Abdulla Faisal; Young Ireland was third for Al Afoo Racing, Jaber Ramadhan, and Mirko Sanna; and Al Shababi came fourth for Al Adiyat Racing, Daniel and Claire Kubler, and Ebrahim Nader.
Elsewhere yesterday, Shareefa lifted the Rova Cup (1,200m Str, BD2,000) for Mohamediya, Fawzi Nass, and Hussain Asghar; Golden Arrow took the stc Bahrain Cup (1,200m Str, BD2,000) for Al Hermes Racing, Osama Hashim, and Abdulla Al Hawaj; Mossaafer won the stc pay Cup (2,400m, BD2,000) for Salah Racing, Abdulla, and Asghar; Anwaar lifted the stc 1783 Cup (1,400m, BD2,000) for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Al Saffar; and Al Kray 1966 won the stc WAHO Cup (1,200m B, BD1,500) for Al Wasmiya, Abdulla Kuwaiti, and Ebrahim Nader.
