Dubai: It is mandatory in the United Arab Emirates to submit copies of renewed Emirates ID card to your bank and telecom companies or else they may freeze your bank accounts and disconnect your phone line.
Emirates ID renewal is, in fact, related to the work visa renewal, which simply means that if a work visa is not renewed, the person’s Emirates ID will not be renewed.
“Your Emirates ID is expiring, please submit the renewed Emirates ID at the base branch or else your account will be frozen within 30 days,” read a bank message alert sent to one of its customers whose work visa expired on January 12, 2016.
The customers said his bank started reminding him at least 15 days prior to the expiry of his Emirates ID.
He was even denied cash withdrawal from his bank after his Emirates ID had expired, reported Emirates 24/7.
So every resident in the UAE, whether citizen or expatriate, is required to submit copy of renewed Emirates ID to bank and telecom companies to avoid disconnection of phone line and freezing of bank account.
