Shonda Rhimes will add another award to her trophy case later this year when she receives the International Emmy Founders Award.
The prolific writer and showrunner behind ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘Scandal’ and ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ will be feted by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Nov. 21 as part of the 44th annual International Emmy Awards in New York City.
“I am continually amazed by the global reach of television and have been so fortunate to have fans of my shows around the world,” Rhimes said.
The International Academy emphasised Rhimes’ rare feat of filling an entire night of primetime on ABC with her roster of dramas that have also travelled well around the world.
“Shonda Rhimes is in a league of her own — not only does she have an entire night of primetime on ABC in the United States, but her groundbreaking shows and iconic characters are avidly followed by over 300 million viewers worldwide, in 67 languages,” said Bruce Paisner, president-CEO of the International Academy.
