In a bizarre type of suicide attempt which took place in a Chilean zoo, a man who stripped naked and entered a lion enclosure, survived, but the lions were killed.
A suicide note was reportedly found in the man's discarded clothing.
Franco Luis Ferrada Roman broke into the enclosure, took off his clothes and jumped into the middle, horrifying other visitors who witnessed the attack.
Once inside, the lions immediately pounced on him and started to maul him.
At this point, zookeepers intervened, and shot the two lions in order to save his life.
Santiago zoo authorities confirmed that the two lions were put down as they severely mauled the young man who had broken into their cage.
The 20-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is said to be in critical condition.
