Doha: The Ministry of Health denied entry of 15 shipments of salmonella-tainted poultry weighing 100,000 kilogrammes over the first four months of 2016.
Health control inspector also denied entry of more than 115,0000 kilogrammes of meat and other byproducts over food safety concerns and failure to comply with the standards.
According to first quarterly statistics released by the Ministry of Health, shipments of fruit and vegetables weighing overall 136,000 kilogrammes were also blocked at entry points.
The ministry coordinated the clampdown with customs and other relevant authorities to ensure the safety standards, reported local Arabic daily Al-Raya.
Statistics compiled by the ministry show that Qatar imported 156.317 million kilogrammes of food products between January and April.
Competent authorities have since denied entry to about 1.7 million kilogrammes of food products.
It also re-exported food products weighing 675,576 kilogrammes and destroyed 393, 711 kilogrammes which were found unhealthy for human consumption.
