There are some places out there in the world where it seems as if danger and mystery are lurking behind every corner. We’d like to introduce a few of them here.

The 'Chapel of Bones' was built by a monk in the 1500’s who decorated the building with the bones of an estimated 5,000 of his fellow monks. And if that’s not creepy enough, two bodies hang from the ceiling, and one them is that of a child.
Catacombs of Paris, France
The network of tunnels under the City of Lights is over 200 miles long and is home to an estimated over 6 million bodies.
Some parts of the catacombs are open to the public as an official museum, but other sections are off limits, yet are visited illegally by thousands of curious tourists and local troublemakers.

Don't let the beauty of this forest fool you. The forest, located near the base of Mount Fuji, is nicknamed the Suicide Forest.
For over 60 years, about 100 people have killed themselves in the forest each year. It’s a severe problem in Japan that local authorities aren’t sure how to stop.
Local tribes practice the custom of mounting their dead’s coffins on a cliff-face in hopes that they will be closer to heaven, resulting in a rather gruesome view.
Off the coast of Brazil, the tiny 'Snake Island' is home to an estimated 4,000 Golden Lancehead Vipers, and is the only place in the world these extremely venomous snakes can be found. '
The only people who dare visit this uninhabited island are the occasional scientists.

Known as 'Plague Island', Poveglia was a place of forced quarantine for plague victims from 1793 to 1814 that numbered about 160,000.
Their mass graves are still there.
Perhaps even more morbid however, the island would later be home to a mental hospital whose doctor did strange experiments on patients before killing himself because he said he was being haunted by ghosts.
The 'Hill of Crosses' has been a central location to religious Lithuanians who have placed crosses on the hill for over 150 years.
Even after the ruling Soviets destroyed the hill multiple times, the devout would return and bring more and more crosses with them. There are now over 100,000 crosses on the hill.
The Island of Dolls, Mexico
There is a very strange, deserted island in Mexico, which is largely populated by a collection of terrifying children’s dolls.
In 1950, Julián Santana Barrera, a recluse, is said to have begun collecting abandoned dolls from rubbish bins and displaying them on an island south of Mexico City, in an attempt to bring peace to the soul of a little girl who had drowned in the vicinity.
Barrera himself drowned on the island on 17th September 2001. The collection of around 1,000 dolls are still there today.
Cat Island - Japan
Tashirojima has a population of one hundred humans, and almost triple the amount of cats.
Originally, the cats were brought to the island to hunt mice, but now, the cat population has gotten somewhat out of control.
Local fishermen regarded them as good luck and the island even has a cat shrine, along with newly built cat shaped cabins for tourists to stay in.
The abandoned island off the coast of Nagasaki was home to over 5,000 as a mining community, until the mines ran dry in 1974.
The island was left to rot and now stands as time capsule over 40 years later.
Abandoned psychiatric hospital - Parma, Italy
The shadow paintings have been added by artist Herbert Baglione and definitely ramp of the creepiness factor of an already scary place. They bring to life the tortured souls that may roam the hallways here.
The Door to Hell - Turkmenistan
This terrifying spot was once a gas field, but the Soviets set it on fire. The fire has been burning for over 40 years, and shows no real signs of stopping.
Fire Mummies - Philippines
Located in the Timbak caves in the Philippines are the burial caves where you will find these well preserved mummies curled up in the fetal position in their original, egg-shaped coffins.
