FOOTBALL – FOUR football clubs from Bahrain have been granted the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) licence, the Bahrain Football Association (BFA) said yesterday.
The Asian licence allows clubs to participate in AFC competitions. It is issued by AFC’s club licensing department, and the kingdom’s four clubs that have obtained it are Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League champions Muharraq, Al Khaldiya, Riffa, and Bahrain Club, the BFA added.
The clubs that were not granted the Asian licence were Sitra, Al Najma, Al Ahli, Malkiya, A’ali, East Riffa, Al Shabab, and Manama, according to the association.
Meanwhile, eight clubs have obtained the national licence from the AFC, which is a requirement for members associations for their local clubs and leagues.
Obtaining a national licence does not qualify clubs to participate in Asian competitions, the BFA clarified.
It is a basic requirement for Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League clubs in order to obtain an Asian licence.
Muharraq, Khaldiya, Riffa, and Bahrain Club have also obtained the national licence along with Sitra, Shabab, Al Hala, and Hidd.
Those who did not obtain a national licence were Najma, Ahli, Malkiya, Manama, A’ali, and East Riffa, the BFA said.
