Bahrain: A New film theatre that will stimulate all five senses through motion seats and special effects will soon open in Bahrain.
Moviegoers will be able to experience movement, scent, wind, bubbles, snow and water during a film screening as the revolutionary 4DX-enabled cinema will be introduced in Bahrain.
It is part of a joint venture between Bahrain Cinema Company (Cineco) and Majid Al Futtaim which will involve an expansion of the existing 8,000 square metres cinema at City Centre Bahrain.
The new megaplex will include a large 4DX cinema and an exclusive cinema dining experience, called Theatre by Rhodes which is the brainchild of Michelin Star celebrity chef Gary Rhodes.
“Since 2008 we have operated one of the highest performing cinemas in the world and are very excited to now partner with Majid Al Futtaim Cinemas to bring many additional benefits to our cinemagoers in the well-known City Centre Bahrain location,” said Cineco chief executive Ahmed Rashed.
“We are confident that our new partnership will see the City Centre Bahrain location become one of the world’s most iconic entertainment destinations with the addition of new screens and countless new innovative and exclusive cinema experiences.”
The motion picture technology, which was developed by South Korean company CJ 4DPLEX, is available in only 40 countries, including Kuwait and the UAE.
The company has partnered with cinema chains around the world including Vox Cinemas to use its technology which supports innovative features including fog, ticklers, rainstorm and lightning effects.
Majid Al Futtaim Vox Cinemas chief executive Cameron Mitchell said they were looking forward to creating a world-class chain of cinemas across the Middle East and North Africa region.

Majid Al Futtaim is undergoing a one billion dirham investment that will see the company expand its cinema arm Vox Cinemas to operate 550 screens in the region by 2020.
