HORSERACING – HUNTERS Call and Fury won the two feature races last night in the 28th and penultimate meeting of the 2025-26 season at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
Hunters Call lifted the Future Stars Champions Cup for Al Adiyat Racing in the sixth of yesterday’s exciting nine-race card, while Fury won the SGB Future Stars Sprint Cup in race five for Al Mohamediya Racing.
In attendance during last night’s events was Prime Minister’s Court Minister and REHC High Committee chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Also on hand was Supreme Council for Environment vice-president, REHC High Committee member, and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport member Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa.
REHC welcomed back members of the public to the venue for yesterday’s races.
Hunters Call claimed first place after 1,600m to come away with the lion’s share of the BD8,000 total prize amongst the race’s Bahrain-bred contenders.
Competing for Adiyat and trainers Daniel and Claire Kubler, jockey Ebrahim Nader rode the three-year-old colt to the finish with a length’s gap from runner-up Diyar, racing for Mohamediya, Ali Abdulmajeed and Hasan Al Saffar.
Sarmadi came third for Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim, Haider Ebrahim, and Abdulrahim Jasim, while Shareefa was fourth for Mohamediya, Fawzi Nass and Soufiane Saadi.
In Fury’s fine victory, which came after 1,000m, the three-year-old gelding topped the field of Bahrain-bred horses for the Mohamediya-Nass-Saadi triumvirate. They dominated the event to claim the biggest portion of the BD8,000 in winnings, finishing six lengths ahead of Ginjer, who took second place for Mohamediya and Abdulmajeed, with Hussain Asghar in the saddle.
Corner Pocket was third for the Adiyat-Kublers-Nader connection, while Desert Empress ranked fourth for Victorious Forever, Paul Smith, and Edinson Rodriguez.
Also last night, Mr Irrelevant and Gwen John lifted their respective REHC-sponsored trophies, with each carrying BD4,000 in prize money.
Mr Irrelevant took the win for the REHC Cup in race eight, held over 2,200m for imported horses. Husain Makki steered the Mohamediya-owned and Nass-trained five-year-old gelding to the win, beating The Parent by a neck, racing for Adiyat, the Kublers, and Abdulla Faisal.
Thosewerethedays finished third for Victorious Forever, Smith, and Lee Newman, while Knight of Honour finished fourth for the Mohamediya-Abdulmajeed-Asghar trio.
In the evening’s fourth race, Gwen John claimed the REHC Sprint Cup, contested over a 1,200m straight by an imported field.
Alberto Sanna rode the three-year-old filly to the win for owners Al Afoo Racing and trainer Jaber Ramadhan, finishing with a clear six-and-a-half lengths’ gap from Maximum Impact, hitting the turf for Zari Al Afoo Racing, Sayed Jaafar Isa, and Faisal.
Burdett finished third for Afoo, Ali Jan, and Nader, while Kaasib completed the top four for Mohamediya and Abdulmajeed, with Saadi in the saddle.
Elsewhere in last night’s meeting, San Diego captured the Palace Enterprises Cup for owner Abdulla Fawzi Nass, trainer Fawzi Nass, and jockey Makki. Madame Olympe was second for the Victorious Forever-Smith-Newman connection; Me Me took third for Mohamediya-Nass-Saadi, and Rotterdam finished fourth for Adiyat-the Kublers-Nader.
