It IS with great sadness that the Marina West off-plan buyers’ group has learned of the death of Mr Alan Pitt, one the group’s most ardent and robust campaigners for justice in the never-ending saga that is Marina West.
Over a period of more than 12 years, Mr Pitt fought tirelessly for a settlement over the long-stalled MW project, the highest-profile real estate development in the kingdom.
He lobbied the Ministry of Justice settlement committee, RERA, the British and US embassies, and local newspapers. He was tireless in his dedication to the cause of obtaining justice for those of us who had laid down our life savings for property which, after more than 10 years, has never been delivered by the developer. Because not even the slightest announcement is made, the authorities seem to be content with doing nothing. Investors feel – with frustration, but considerable justification – this will continue until the developer is held to account. Why has this not happened?
Mr Pitt’s demise is only the most recent of several deaths to occur amongst buyers of apartments at MW while waiting more than a decade for their legally-entitled property – and still there is no end in sight. I wonder how many more investors will pass away before the Bahrain authorities wake up to this scandalous and potentially tragic ongoing situation. Perhaps all of us?
