Physicians, surgeons, nurses, internists as well as haematology and oncology medical workers are invited to attend a professional development session being conducted tomorrow by the American Mission Hospital (AMH).
The session will take place in the evening starting at 8pm at the Crowne Plaza Manama hotel, with opening remarks from Dr Babu Ramachandran and Dr Rama Krishna.
The highlight of the workshop will be two sessions focused on haematology and bone marrow transplants.
The first session by paediatric haematology, oncology and bone marrow transplant director Dr Vikas Dua will be focused on ‘Haploidentical Bone Marrow Transplant in Paediatric Benign Haematological Disorders’.
Dr Dua and his team have performed more than 800 transplants and specialises in paediatric haematology and stem cell transplants.
The second session of the evening will be conducted by haematology and bone marrow transplant director Dr Rahul Bhargava titled ‘Haploidentical Bone Marrow Transplants in Leukaemia’.
Dr Bhargava is the first Indian doctor to perform a stem cell transplant in a multiple sclerosis patient and has since popularised the procedure. He has also been credited for establishing six low-cost haematology centres in India and is a founding member of the Delhi Haematology Group.
Registration for the professional development seminar is free, and qualified medical staff can earn two continuing medical education (CME) credit hours.
The event is being organised by the AMH in partnership with the National Health Regulatory Authority, the Bahrain chapter of the Indian Medical Association, GTS Trionet and Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurgaon.
