Al Kuwait qualified for the second round after a 1-1 draw against Algerian club JS Saoura in their second-leg match of the first round of the King Salman Cup for Clubs 2023.
Al Kuwait, who had won the first-leg match 1-0, qualified with a 2-1 aggregate victory.
Tunisian player Taha Yasin Al Khunaizi put Kuwait ahead in the 64th minute, but Saoura bounced back with a goal in the 76th minute, by Dawson.
The remaining matches of the first round will be held next month.
In addition to Saoura and Kuwait’s game, five other matches were held last week in the first leg of the first round. The Iraqi Air Force team (Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya) drew 1-1 with Saudi Al Shabab, Sudan’s Al Hilal defeated Manama 3-0, and Muharraq registered a 2-0 win over Oman’s Al Seeb.
In the same round, Mauritania’s Nouadhibou defeated Jordan’s Shabab Al Ordon 4-1, and Morocco’s AS FAR beat Libya’s Al Ittihad by the same score.
The tournament is organised by the Union of Arab Football Associations.
