Unmanned mine-hunting naval operations are being trialled in the seas around Bahrain, with artificial intelligence and autonomous capabilities set to become more central in the security of the Arabian Gulf in the coming years.
The UK Maritime Component Command’s (UKMCC) Royal Navy motorboat Harrier, an Atlas remote-controlled mine sweeper vessel, is currently in the Gulf for operation evaluation trials, where the heat, humidity and saline water will provide a challenging new test environment .
