BAHRAIN yesterday mourned the deaths of two BDF servicemen who were killed in a horrific Houthi drone attack along the border between Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
The Bahrain Defence Force (BDF), in a statement, said ‘it deeply mourns the tragic loss of the brave servicemen who valiantly gave their lives in the line of duty’.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of these heroic fallen soldiers,” the statement said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. We also pray for Allah’s mercy upon the fallen servicemen and ask for patience and solace for their families.
“Additionally, we pray for a swift recovery for the wounded and injured personnel.
“On Monday, during their dedicated service in the Arab Coalition forces as part of Operation Decisive Storm and Operation Restoring Hope, an officer and a soldier from the BDF were tragically killed,” the statement added.
“Several others were wounded in the terrorist attack conducted by the Houthi forces who utilised unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) for the purpose.
“These attacks targeted the Bahraini taskforce stationed in the southern region, specifically along the borders of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
The BDF said it has deployed a medical team on an aircraft to evacuate the wounded, injured, and fallen servicemen back to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
“This immediate action demonstrates our commitment to providing prompt medical assistance and support,” the BDF said.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the fallen servicemen and remain steadfast in our dedication to their well-being.”
The UAE expressed its condolences and its solidarity with the Kingdom of Bahrain following the death and injury of the BDF servicemen.
A UAE Foreign Ministry statement said the terrorist attack carried out by the Houthis represented a flagrant violation of international laws and norms which requires a deterrent response.
The ministry also called on the international community to unite efforts and take a decisive stance to stop these operations and return to a political process that leads to peace, security, and stability in Yemen and the region.
Jordan and Yemen also rapped the treacherous attack, offering its condolences to the government and the people of Bahrain and to families of the fallen servicemen, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
Brigadier General Turki Al Malki, the Official Spokesman of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, condemned the Houthi forces for the “heinous act that followed other hostilities during the past month, which included targeting an electric power distribution station and a police station in the border region”.
GCC secretary general Jassim Al Bedioui, Arab Parliament chairman Adel Al Assoumi, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President Anwar Gargash conveyed their condolences to Bahrain and its leadership.
The US embassy in Manama extended heartfelt condolences to the families and colleagues of the personnel who lost their lives and wished the injured a rapid recovery.
“With the people and government of Bahrain, we mourn today’s losses and stand with our longtime ally and friend,” the embassy said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
