WRESTLING – REIGNING Kingdom Pro Wrestling (KPW) champion Asaad Al Shareef, better known by fans as Razor Jaw Shareef, defeated not one but two homeland competitors during his first title defence in Bahrain.
The Saudi wrestler, who took the title last month, defeated both Bahraini contenders Mohammed ‘Great Zubari’ and ‘Jabbar’ in a triple threat match at the main event.
It now means that the Saudi star has defeated both wrestlers twice within three weeks.
The Great Zubari had earlier starred in a gruelling 16-round showcase wrestling tournament but lost in under five minutes on the same night after a challenge from unimpressed Razor Jaw.
Jabbar lost to Razor Jaw in the quarter-finals after being pinned for the first time by any wrestler since KPW was set up in 2017, the country’s popular professional wrestling promotion.
Hundreds of avid wrestling fans showed up to watch the weekend action at Galleria Mall in Zinj.
Fans erupted with ‘awesome’ chants during one all-action encounter between Madrex the Entertainer and Carnatux. At the end, the two competitors hugged each other as Carnatux informed the audience it was to be his last match.
Confident Razor Jaw Shareef told the GDN that ‘no one’ could successfully step up against him amongst the current roster of athletes.
“I took on the two strongest so-called ‘fan favourites’ and destroyed them, not once but twice in less than a month. I am the champion for 2023, 2024 and beyond,” he said.
“Who is man enough to stop me? No one. Even if there was someone brave enough to step in the ring that wrestler would end up being beat up lying in a heap on the canvas.
“I may as well as have a night off when it comes to the next event and watch the show with the audience … until the organisers can find a worthwhile opponent.”
