Over 100 families in Dubai have been impacted by structural damage to a multi-storey tower in Muhaisnah 4. Residents were evacuated from the premises late on Friday night.
Multiple residents reported an ‘earthquake-like’ movement through the building. Hours later, Dubai Civil Defence officials arrived at the residence to alert tenants to evacuate the building immediately.
Residents were informed that one side of the building suffered damage which caused it to crack and tilt slightly. This resulted from the recent heavy rainfall that caused flooding in the UAE.
Some residents reported feeling the shake to a greater degree than others.
The downpour flooded the basement of the building, according to the tenants. Measures have been taken to address this issue; however, after days of pumping water out of the lower level of the building, many cars are still submerged in water.
As per reports, residents quickly grabbed important documents and belongings before evacuating with their families from the building.
Some residents retreated to their cars outside the tower, while others sought refuge in hotels or homes of relatives. The building owner has promised to reimburse the cost of stays at paid accommodation for tenants following the incident.
Residents face an uncertain future as a result of this event. Tenants have not been informed when the building will be safe to live in again.
