Olympics – Bahrain will be hosting a new branch office of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
This was confirmed yesterday at the 43rd OCA General Assembly, held in Bangkok, Thailand.
The OCA praised Bahrain’s efforts in establishing the office, which comes following the leadership and approval of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and BOC president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The BOC delegation at yesterday’s continental gathering was headed by BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji. It included BOC international and Arab relations department director Fajr Jassim and BOC co-ordination and follow-up director Mohammed Al Balooshi.
The general assembly was presided over by OCA acting president Raja Randhir Singh, and was attended by delegates from the 45 National Olympic Committees under the OCA. International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach delivered a video message to all those in attendance.
Various issues were discussed, including the latest preparations for upcoming OCA events. These include the sixth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Bangkok-Chonburi, Thailand this November, the ninth Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China and the third Asian Youth Games in Tashkent, Uzbekistan next year, and the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan in 2026.
