MMA – BAHRAIN’S mixed martial arts (MMA) national team are set to compete in the 2024 IMMAF Asian Championships, taking place in Lahore, Pakistan.
Ten of the kingdom’s top fighters will be stepping into the cage in both seniors and juniors weight divisions. The competition is being organised by the International MMA Federation (IMMAF).
The seniors include Sultan Gapizov in the men’s heavyweight 120.2kg category, Gadzhi Gadhiev in the men’s light heavyweight 93kg, Abdulrahman Janahi in the men’s middleweight 83.9kg, Gimbat Magomedov in the men’s welterweight 77.1kg, Ahmed Mubarak in the men’s featherweight 65.8kg, Shamil Alikhanov in the men’s bantamweight 61.2kg, and Magomed Sheikhov in the men’s strawweight 52.2kg category.
The juniors include Ali Marhoon in the juniors’ welterweight 77.1kg division, Hamad Marhoon in the juniors’ bantamweight 61.2kg, and Abdulla Ismaeel in the juniors’ flyweight 56.7kg.
Bahrain MMA Federation (BMMAF) and Asian MMA Federation (AMMAF) president Mohamed Qamber has joined the Bahrainis in Lahore. The kingdom’s delegation also features coaches Renat Iusubov, Ebrahim Aun, and Mohammad Sameer.
The 2024 IMMAF Asian Championships will take place during BRAVE International Combat Week. Pakistan follows the likes of Bahrain, Colombia, and Serbia to host the marquee event, and this will be the first BRAVE International Combat Week to be held in Asia outside of Bahrain.
Aside from the kingdom’s national team, fighters competing are coming from Afghanistan, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, the UAE, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and hosts Pakistan, among other Asian nations.
