FUTSAL – BAHRAIN suffered a crucial 1-3 defeat to hosts Thailand yesterday in their qualifying competition for the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup 2025.
The kingdom’s women’s national team fell 1-3 in their third and penultimate assignment in Group A, currently being held in the city of Nonthaburi in Thailand.
Despite the loss, the Bahrainis remain in contention for a berth in the tournament proper, which is scheduled to take place this May in China.
Bahrain’s last and deciding qualifier will be played tomorrow against Palestine, scheduled for a 12.30pm kick-off, Bahrain time. The nationals need to win to ensure their place in the continental championship.
The Bahrainis are currently second on the divisional table but are one of three teams with four points apiece. The others are Palestine and Iraq. The Iraqis played Lebanon in yesterday’s other Group A fixture and won 2-1.
Thailand are in first place on the standings with nine points, having won all three of their matches so far. The Bahrainis are ahead of Palestine and Iraq based on head-to-head points, while Lebanon are last with one point.
The Bahrainis’ clash against Palestine tomorrow, along with Thailand’s game with Lebanon, will decide the final rankings in their pool and the teams that will book their places in the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup 2025.
Bahrain are one of 19 national teams playing in four different qualification groups for the right to claim one of nine available berths in the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup. The top two teams from each pool, along with the best third-placed side overall, will book their tickets to China.
In yesterday’s loss, the nationals were first to make it onto the score sheet when Ameera Bader Swar found the net after three minutes. But the Thais were quick to reply and Meekham Sangrawee brought the home team back on level terms the very next minute. Lalida Chimpabut then put the Thais ahead two minutes later, and Arriya Saetoen pegged the final score with a goal two minutes from the final buzzer.
