A few days ago, I received a call from a close friend in Italy, brimming with excitement as he shared news of his upcoming trip to Bahrain with his family to attend the Formula 1 Grand Prix. It was a long-anticipated journey he had been planning meticulously for months – carefully budgeting and organising every detail, from flights and accommodation to dining, transportation, and entertainment – with the aim of realising a deeply held aspiration.
What stood out most in our conversation was his reflection on what sets the Bahrain Grand Prix apart from other Formula 1 races and global sporting events. He spoke of the genuine warmth and hospitality of the Bahraini people, the relative affordability of premium experiences, the ease of direct travel from Italy, and Bahrain’s unique position as a gateway to the region. Most of all, he valued the personal connections he has here – including our longstanding friendship.
Naturally, I extended my warmest welcome and took every step to support his travel arrangements. Having never missed a single Formula 1 Grand Prix in Bahrain since its inaugural race in 2004, I fully appreciate the enthusiasm this event evokes. Over the years, I have even adjusted my travel calendar to ensure I remain present for this extraordinary occasion. For me – and for countless others – Formula 1 in Bahrain represents far more than a motorsport event; it is a world-class celebration that seamlessly weaves together competition, culture, and community in a way few global events can replicate.
In previous editions of the Grand Prix, I have had the pleasure of showcasing my personal collection of vintage automobiles to visiting guests. Among them are meticulously hand-crafted models dating back to 1912, originally manufactured for use during the First World War, alongside a range of other heritage vehicles I have acquired over the years. Each one remains fully operational and is preserved with the highest level of care and craftsmanship.
From an organisational standpoint, Bahrain’s execution of the Formula 1 Grand Prix continues to set a benchmark for excellence. Every element – from transportation and accommodation to hospitality and guest services – is delivered with precision and efficiency, providing international visitors with a seamless and memorable experience. It is this level of quality and attention to detail that compels many attendees to return annually – not solely for the race, but for the broader experience of Bahrain itself.
Equally commendable is the breadth of artistic, cultural, and entertainment programming that complements the event. From live musical performances and theatrical shows to immersive exhibitions, both within the circuit and throughout the city, these offerings significantly enhance the value of the Grand Prix.
I’ve always believed that Bahrain’s decision to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix was not only bold but deeply perceptive. It was a move rooted in foresight – one that has brought the kingdom a level of global visibility and respect that’s hard to quantify. Formula 1 offers a unique return on investment: a global spotlight, year after year, with significantly less strain and arguably even greater impact.
Equally powerful is the influence of the international visitors drawn to the race. These guests often become storytellers in their own right, returning home with vivid memories of Bahrain’s warmth, hospitality, and vibrancy. Many share their experiences across social media, further enhancing the kingdom’s image on the global stage.
That’s why it’s so important that we make the most of every aspect of this moment – whether through brand activations, local food vendors, live concerts, or cultural showcases. The Grand Prix is more than a race; it’s a national opportunity. And with thoughtful planning, the economic benefits can extend far beyond the track, reaching businesses of all kinds and sizes.
As this year’s race approaches, I extend my sincere congratulations to Bahrain’s leadership and its people for once again bringing this world-class event to life. The Bahrain Grand Prix has grown into something truly special – a celebration of sport, culture, and connection – and it continues to remind the world of Bahrain’s capacity for excellence.
