GOLF – Vidhu Mittal won the Consolation Bowl while Shuvendu Bakshi lifted the Winners Cup in the final competitions of the Awali Golf Club (AGC) season, held over the weekend.
As temperatures continue to rise, the AGC calendar has now wrapped up. The Consolation Bowl is the traditional end-of-season event, and it is the last chance for all members not winning a main prize during the season to claim victory. In the same competition, all those who won a competition during the season compete for the Winners Cup.
In the battle for the Consolation Bowl, both Mittal and Khalid Salem Al Aathem had disappointing last holes. For Mittal, however, he had built a good lead, and with a commanding 67 net, secured first place, beating Al Aathem and Abdullah Mubarak Al Jowher by one shot.
Meanwhile, playing for the Winners Cup, Bakshi had a consistent start, compensating triple bogeys with nice pars and coming in with a 67 net. He beat Abdulrahman Abdulwahed Al Shaikh by one shot to secure victory.
The best gross score of the day was a 69 by Salem Khalifa Masood, finishing in style with an eagle on the 18th. The prizes were handed out by AGC captain Steve Newall and AGC vice-captain Balbir Singh.
