CYCLING – TEAM Bahrain Victorious rider Jakob Omrzel took over the white jersey for best young rider yesterday after the second stage of the 31st Tour of Slovenia.
The Slovenian youngster finished the 162.7-kilometre leg in fifth place overall after being promoted from sixth following the relegation of the winner for an irregular sprint.
Omrzel was thus able to climb 17 places in the best young rider classification, where he now boasts a top time of seven hours 33 minutes 52 seconds. He has taken over first place from Antonio Morgado of UAE Team Emirates-XRG and is in the lead by 51 seconds.
Omrzel was also the best finisher for Bahrain Victorious’ competitors yesterday, being the only one to make it into the top 10.
Belgian teammate Vlad Van Mechelen came 11th and Austrian Rainer Kepplinger finished 46th, while Russian Roman Erkamov and German Phil Bauhaus were 55th and 56th, respectively.
Briton Oliver Stockwell and Slovenian Zak Erzen completed Bahrain Victorious’ riders in 86th and 92nd places.
