Bahrain's Asma Le Falher set a new national record yesterday in the women’s 100 metres butterfly while competing in the World Aquatics Championships 2025 in Singapore.
Twenty-year-old Le Falher clocked her new Bahraini long-course mark of one minute 05.53 seconds in the second of six preliminary round heats. She had a split of 29.34 seconds en route to setting the new record.
Winning her heat was Emma Sabando Toro of Ecuador in 1:01.60. Le Falher placed 51st amongst the total 58 athletes from around the world who competed in the event.
She is set to return to the pool at the World Aquatics Championships Arena, located at Singapore Sports Hub in the zone of Kallang, for the women’s 100m freestyle on Thursday.
With her fine performance yesterday, Le Falher is now the holder of three national records. The other two, also across long-course races, are in the women’s 50m butterfly of 29.12s and the women’s 200m freestyle of 2:11.58.
Meanwhile, also yesterday in Singapore, Bahrain’s Saud Ghali competed in the men’s 100m breaststroke. The Paris Olympics participant clocked a time of 1:06.50 in the second of eight heats in the preliminaries, where he was classified 63rd overall from 74 competitors.
Ghali had a split of 30.85s in his race. Winning the heat was Haniel Kudwoli of Kenya in 1:04.92.
Twenty-year-old Ghali is back in action in the men’s 200m breaststroke on Thursday. Ghali is the national record-holder in the event across long-course venues is 2:21.94
Bahrain have two other swimmers set to compete in Singapore. They include Paris 2024 Olympian Amani Alobaidli and the national team’s youngest competitor in Singapore Ahmed Suhail.
Nineteen-year-old Alobaidli is set to swim in both the women’s 100m backstroke today and the women’s 50m backstroke on Wednesday. Suhail, 17, will be racing in the men’s 1,500m freestyle on Saturday and in the men’s 400m medley on Sunday.
The kingdom’s national team at this year’s World Aquatics Championships is headed by Bahrain Aquatics official and Rio 2016 Olympian Farhan Saleh Farhan.
