BASKETBALL – BAHRAIN take on Algeria tonight in the gold medal game of the 22nd U16 Arab Basketball Championship for Youth, which is set to come to a close in Cairo, Egypt.
The tournament final is scheduled for a 7pm tip-off at Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex. It will be the culmination of a dominant run for the kingdom’s squad in the competition, where they have won all five of their preliminary round contests leading up to this evening’s title decider.
The Bahrainis routed the Algerians 80-54 in their earlier meeting in the opening phase.
The nationals, coached by Tunisian tactician Racem Marzougui, are the reigning Gulf Basketball Association (GBA) champions and will now be looking to add the Arab crown to their achievements.
They have been spearheaded in the Egyptian capital by their twin towers of Somto Patrick Onoduenyi and Hassan Abdulkadir, who are once again expected to come up big this evening. The team’s other players are Aly Hussien, Mohamed Ghuloom, Mohamed Farhan, Hussien Madan, Aly Al Haddad, Youssef Mashaai, Hassan Rowaian, Hassan Fouad, Devian Wesdom, and Aly Khalil.
This year’s U16 Arab Basketball Championship for Youth has been organised and is being run by the Arab Basketball Confederation (ABC), in cooperation with the Egyptian Basketball Federation.
The Bahrainis are playing in this ABC competition after winning last month the Fiba U16 Asia Cup GBA Qualifiers 2025, earning them a spot along with Saudi Arabia to this year’s Fiba U16 Asia Cup, to be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, next month.
