VOLLEYBALL – PERFECT Bahrain completed last night a clean sweep of their preliminary round campaign in the 17th Arab Junior Volleyball Championship, currently being played in Amman, Jordan.
The Bahrainis, coached by Santiago Faidutti from Argentina, outclassed their counterparts from Palestine 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-19) to end their Group B campaign undefeated.
The nationals first claimed a four-set win against Kuwait in their opening assignment and then followed it up with a three-set triumph against Iraq, before securing the comfortable victory against the Palestinians yesterday.
The Bahrainis now head into the tournament’s knockout stage as Group B winners. Their next opponent in the ensuing phase has yet to be determined.
Group A is composed of Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, and hosts Jordan. Saudi Arabia and the UAE were also originally slated to take part, but had withdrawn.
The championship has been organised and is run by the Arab Volleyball Association, chaired by Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, in co-operation with the Jordan Volleyball Federation. The kingdom’s delegation in Amman is headed by BVA vice-president Mohammed Al Thawadi.
