FOOTBALL – Bahrain's under-17 football national team played to a 1-1 stalemate against their counterparts from FK Zeljeznicar Sarajevo in a friendly match during their ongoing overseas training camp in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Hussain Amir was the scorer for the Bahrainis.
The nationals are in Sarajevo gearing up for their upcoming competitions, including the AGCFF U17 Gulf Cup 2025 next month and the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers in November.
Their camp is being held under the supervision of head coach Ugo Klingor from Croatia.
The match against Zeljeznicar was the second of their camp.
They previously also played FK Sarajevo, and will next face the hosts’ youth national team on Monday and then again on Thursday.
They are then scheduled to return to the kingdom the following day.
The eight-nation AGCFF U17 Gulf Cup 2025, organised by the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF), is set to be held in Doha, Qatar, from September 20 to October 2.
The kingdom’s team are set to compete in Group B of the tournament’s preliminary round alongside Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq. Group A features the UAE, Oman, Yemen, and hosts Qatar.
The AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers, meanwhile, are scheduled for November 22 to 30. Bahrain have been drawn in Group A, to be held in China, alongside the hosts, Bangladesh, Brunei, Timor-Leste, and Sri Lanka.
The 38-nation field has been divided into seven groups – each to be held at a centralised location.
They will be vying for just seven available places for the tournament proper, to be held from May 7 to 24 in Saudi Arabia next year.
