FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN’S under-20 men’s football national team fell to a narrow 1-2 defeat to their counterparts from Saudi Arabia last night in a friendly match played in the Saudi city of Abha.
The game was part of both teams’ preparations for the AGCFF Gulf Cup U-20 2025, which is scheduled to kick off this Thursday, also in Abha. Khaled Al Khalidi scored the Bahrainis’ lone goal in the contest.
Bahrain’s under-20 side are coached by former national team and Muharraq Club star Ali Aamer.
The Gulf Cup U-20 2025 is being organised by the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF). It is scheduled to continue until September 10.
Bahrain are in Group B for the tournament’s preliminary round alongside Oman, Iraq, and Egypt, while Group A features Qatar, Kuwait, Yemen, and hosts Saudi.
Egypt are participating following the withdrawal of the UAE. The Egyptians will be using the event to gear up for their participation in the Fifa U-20 World Cup in Chile, scheduled for September 27 to October 19. The competition also features Saudi, who are one of four national teams representing the Asian Football Confederation.
