CYCLING – SAAD Talal Al Saadi clinched first place yesterday in the second stage of the fifth Nasser Bin Hamad Cycling Tour for Amateurs.
Al Saadi triumphed in the 65-kilometre leg competing in the Bahraini amateurs category. Mohammed Hassan Jawad finished in second place while Hassan Aqeel Thamer came third.
Following yesterday’s events, Abdulaziz Saleh Al Hamri maintained his hold on the yellow jersey, sponsored by Bapco Energies, for overall leader in this class, in addition to keeping the blue jersey for the under-23 category, sponsored by Marassi Galleria.
Jawad took over the red jersey for points leader, sponsored by Beyon, while Aqeel Thamer continued to wear the green jersey for the over-40 category, sponsored by Al Salam Bank.
In the race’s category for GCC riders, Bahrain national team members, and expatriate residents, Saeed Hassan took first place in yesterday’s stage, followed by Helal Jaber Al Harbi and Majid Saeed Al Khatri.
Al Harbi thus maintained his hold on the orange jersey, sponsored by Bapco Energies, for the overall leader in this category, along with the grey jersey for points classification, sponsored by Beyon.
David Plese kept the pink jersey for the over-40 age-group, sponsored by Al Salam Bank, and Mahdi Hassan Jawad continued to wear the purple jersey for the under-23 category, sponsored by Marassi Galleria.
The race’s third and penultimate stage is scheduled to take place today. It is the most gruelling leg, covering a distance of 130km, starting from Marassi Galleria and ending at Al Jazayer Beach in Zallaq.
