Kuwaiti authorities have revoked the citizenship of former footballer and retired army officer Colonel Ahmed Al Tarabulsi.
Al Tarabulsi, a goalkeeper who represented the national team between 1972 and 1982, was born in Lebanon in 1947. He moved to Kuwait in his twenties and was granted citizenship to play for the country's national side. He was a key member of the Kuwaiti team that participated in the 1980 Summer Olympics and the 1982 FIFA World Cup.
After retiring from football, Al Tarabulsi became an army officer, later retiring with the rank of Colonel.
His citizenship was revoked as part of a nationwide campaign that has affected numerous individuals in Kuwait over the past year. However, the decision has been heavily criticised by many who highlight his significant contributions to Kuwaiti sports and society.
