Saudi authorities have cracked down on an unauthorised baking operation where biscuits and other baked goods were being produced in large quantities.
An investigation into the supply chain of a petrol station shop led to a raid that uncovered several apartments being used for confectionery production in unsanitary conditions. The unlicensed operation was found to be in gross violation of health and safety regulations.
During the raid, officials discovered more than 2,100 eggs lacking any required labels or expiry dates. Authorities subsequently destroyed 650kg of finished confectionery along with five tonnes of raw food materials.
