BASKETBALL – SAMAHEEJ A were crowned champions of the inaugural edition of the Bahrain 3x3 Basketball League.
The landmark Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA) tournament came to a close with a grand final held late Thursday night at Marassi Galleria in Diyar Al Muharraq.
Samaheej A came away with their triumph after defeating Al Najma 21-14 in the title-decider.
Muharraq, meanwhile, finished in third place overall as all three teams came away with cash prizes.
From the $8,000 in total prize money on offer in the grand final, Samaheej A pocketed $4,000, Najma came away with $2,500, and Muharraq took home $1,500.
Following all the action, BBA vice-president Salman Hubail presented the top three their respective trophies and medals in the presence of other BBA and club officials.
Thursday’s grand final was the culmination of the league’s first season, which featured six qualifying rounds leading up to championship night. Eight teams battled for the overall crown, with the other five being Bahrain Club, Samaheej B, Manama, Al Ahli, and Isa Town.
The first Bahrain 3x3 Basketball League was one of the most prominent initiatives launched by the BBA this season. It aimed to diversify local competitions in 3x3, in line with the game’s rapid rise internationally, as it is now set to become part of the Olympic programme at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
