HORSERACING – Victorious Forever contender Caballo De Mar took an impressive runner-up finish yesterday in the Group Two Dubai Gold Cup at Meydan Racecourse in the UAE.
The George Scott-trained five-year-old, ridden by jockey William Buick, finished just a half-length behind winner Fairy Glen, competing for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Simon and Ed Crisford, and Mickael Barzalona; while further back in third was Al Nayyir, racing for Elbashir Salem AB Elhrari, Tom Clover, and Rossa Ryan.
The high-profile race, sponsored by Al Tayer Motors, was held over 16 furlongs, with nearly GBP500,000 in winnings.
Caballo De Mar made a strong season’s debut in the event, which featured a field of 10 competitors.
