Bakeries and other stores across Bahrain have been warned against exploiting current circumstances by raising prices.
The Industry and Commerce Ministry issued a statement yesterday emphasising that these establishments carry a national responsibility to maintain government‑subsidised prices and ensure stability for consumers.
“The ministry emphasises the necessity of adhering to rules and regulations regarding subsidised flour,” the statement said.
“It is prohibited under any circumstances to manipulate the prices of these products, withhold them from customers, use government-subisidised flour for purposes other than its intended use, or engage in any monopolistic or harmful commercial practices.”
The ministry confirmed that it will intensify monitoring and inspection campaigns to ensure the compliance of all automated and traditional bakeries.
“Necessary legal measures will also be taken against any establishment that is found to violate the relevant laws and resolutions.”
Meanwhile, Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro conducted an inspection visit to the warehouses of Maza Foodstuff Company to review the readiness of supply chains and ensure the availability of essential food commodities to meet the needs of citizens, residents, and the kingdom’s strategic food reserves.
He was received by Mohammed Ebrahim Zainal, the company’s Chief Financial Officer, and Mohamed Mahmoud Faqihi, Warehouse Manager, in the presence of several senior officials from the ministry.
The minister emphasised that strengthening food security in Bahrain remains a top priority, noting that the current stock levels reflect strong preparedness and that strategic reserves of key commodities are sufficient to meet local demand for several months in most sectors.
The ministry also urged citizens and residents to shop responsibly and avoid excessive purchasing or stockpiling and encouraged reporting any irregular pricing practices or unjustified shortages through the consumer complaints hotline 80008001.
