RUGBY – BAHRAIN’S First XV rugby team have officially been crowned champions of the 2025-26 Men’s West Asia Premiership.
This was announced yesterday by Bahrain Rugby Club (BRC) after the remainder of the current season, which was headed into the semi-finals with Bahrain as number one seeds, was cancelled due to the unfortunate events that are taking place in the region.
A BRC statement published yesterday on social media read: “While the season has been cut short due to the ongoing situation in the region (certainly not the ‘final whistle’ we all envisioned), there is no denying where the trophy belongs.
“Our men delivered a perfect, unbeaten run with 12 victories from 12, and a dominant 59 points out of 60.
“Though we didn’t get to finish the journey on the pitch as we would have liked, we couldn’t be prouder of the standard this squad has set for the club.
“This title is a testament to the hard work of the players, the coaching staff, and the unwavering support of the entire BRC family.”
Bahrain swept all their games against the First XVs of the Dubai Hurricanes, the Abu Dhabi Harlequins, the Dubai Dragons, the Dubai Sharks, the Dubai Exiles, and Doha. It was the second straight campaign in which they won all their preliminary round fixtures.
The kingdom’s representatives were set to play in the final four against a yet-to-be-determined opponent on April 4 in a home assignment at BRC in Saar. The final was also slated for early next month.
Bahrain regained the West Asian title they last won in the 2022-23 season.
