A mysterious violin and its many owners is the focus of a film being screened at Bahrain Cinema Club tonight.
The Red Violin, from director François Girard, stars Carlo Cecchi as Nicolo Bussotti, Samuel L Jackson as Charles Morritz and Sylvia Chang as Xiang Pei.
Set in present day Montreal, the film revolves around a famous Nicolo Bussotti violin, known as ‘the red violin’, which is being auctioned off.
During the auction, we flash back to the creation of the violin in 17th century Italy and then follow it as it makes its way through an 18th century Austrian monastery, a violinist in 19th century Oxford, China during the Cultural Revolution, and back to Montreal, where a collector tries to establish the identity and the secrets of ‘the red violin’.
Nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the Red Violin will be screened tonight from 7pm at the Bahrain Cinema Club, Juffair.
