Riyadh: The new state-of-the-art King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah will have a soft launch in May 2018.
The General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) Chairman Abdul Hakim bin Mohammed Al-Tamimi announced the soft opening of new milestone during a forum themed “Role of Transportation in Regional Development”.
He stressed the importance of the new airport in boosting Saudi civil aviation infrastructure as part of the massive urban development in Mecca according to Jazirah.
Under the 2030 vision, the Saudi authorities expert say the number of pilgrims who performed the Haj in addition to Umrah to top 30 million.
In 2017, more than 1.648 million pilgrims arrived in Saudi Arabia to perform the Haj rituals.
The new King Abdul-Aziz International Airport will be able to accommodate 70 planes at the same time.
