MANAMA: A Bahraini home-grown jewellery brand has invested more than BD8 million ($21.3m) in new manufacturing facilities in Hidd-based Bahrain International Investment Park (BIIP) in Salman Industrial City, it has emerged.
Spread over 6,000sqm, Devji & Company's new gold factory and Devji Aurum's gold and diamond jewellery factory are a part of the Devji since 1950 multi-million dollar family-owned business.
The factories will manufacture handcrafted, designer, bridal, diamond and gold jewellery.
Group chief executive Prakash Devji said the two state-of-the-art units currently employ more than 130 highly skilled artisans and there are plans to hire 100 plus staff additionally as the brand expands its retail footprint, not just in the Mena region, but also westwards and in the far-east.
"Further investments are planned to enhance product quality to compete with the best in the world," he added.
The group also plans to participate in prestigious international jewellery exhibitions to showcase 'Made in Bahrain' quality jewellery.
The factories were inaugurated by Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry Industry Affairs Under-Secretary Osama Alarrayedh in the presence of Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha, during a ceremony held under the patronage of Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani.
