Bahrain’s history is encrusted with pearls as the trade is synonymous with not only the country’s image to the world, but also its culture – an imminent factor that separates Bahrain from the rest of the GCC.
Founded by renowned jeweller Vijay Shah, Al Hashimi Pearls has become one of Bahrain’s most recognised pearl jewellers.
Mr Shah’s fascination with pearls and the industry brought him to Bahrain from India in 1983, where he subsequently set up Al Hashimi Pearls.
Inspired by the royal, luxurious nature of pearls, Mr Shah established his shop in the heart of Bahrain at the Manama Suq.
Before establishing his business, Mr Shah enrolled in the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) to deepen his understanding of precious gems and pearls and learn how to grade gems.
Pearls are handpicked by Mr Shah himself, who says each and every pearl is selected and used as per the standards set by the industry to ensure pieces are delivered to meet client expectations.
The highest quality precious stones are acquired from across the globe, with diamonds from Belgium, pearls from Bahrain, emeralds from Zambia and rubies from Burma.
Every piece created at Al Hashimi Pearls is exquisite, unique, and nothing short of dazzling.
Mr Shah’s children are involved in expanding the business, his son Hardik Shah manages operations and his daughter Ishita Shah is behind the stunning designs at Al Hashimi Pearls.
From traditional Bahraini pieces adorned by brides to smaller and simpler pendants, or a single-pearl sown into a white gold chain, each and every piece at Al Hashimi Pearls is made using the best pearls.
From the perfectly round Jiwan (or G1) pearls to the irregular baroque pearls in various colours, shapes, and lustres, Al Hashimi Pearls even makes use of the smallest pearls to create their alluring and versatile tassel collection.
Every piece at Al Hashimi Pearls is the definition of luxury.
As trends have evolved over the years, Mr Shah notes a shift in customer preferences, however, certain styles have remained firm favourites.
Timeless pieces include pearl chokers, which can be worn to any occasion, and the traditional karkoosha pieces, which have also always been in demand.
“One of the most important things is to ensure jewellery is delivered as per a client’s request and within a defined budget,” said Mr Shah.
Al Hashimi Pearls features three stores across Bahrain and is highly reputable not only locally but across the Middle East, US and Europe.
“Our main aim is to transfer pearls – the beautiful wonders of the ocean – into classic pieces of jewellery,” added Mr Shah.
“Each jewellery item at Al Hashimi Pearls reveals a story of its own, signifying a rich amalgamation of passion and creativity.”
The jewellery house consistently strives to push beyond the limits of design and production.
Each piece created tells the story of a journey through different cultures, carefully crafted by skilled artisans.
As the pearling tradition is deeply embedded in Bahrain’s culture and history, Al Hashimi Pearls translates the same love and passion into its jewellery and through this commitment has secured itself as one of the most recognised and sought after pearl jewellers in Bahrain.
